Sep 21, 2019 · The DD-WRT Firmware. Install the free firmware called DD-WRT on the old router. This is how you can start with the process of making the old router a wireless bridge or a repeater. This signifies that the devices that cannot make it to your primitive router can receive connection through the old router at any place you keep it.
Again: No. The WRT is not a repeater. I does not act as a repeater. You can't use it as repeater. You must run a ethernet cable between the WRT and your main router. You may only be able to do this with 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or tomato. But then you should better ask in a forum on that firmware. I do not own a ea6400, but I looked at the user interface online and it does not seem to have repeater. But, If you have a cat-5 cable going from the first router (LAN port) to it, you should be able to plug it into the WAN port on the 6400 and set it to bridge mode instead. Dec 20, 2015 · Setting up a wireless repeater with DD-WRT and Tomato firmware Posted on Sunday, December 20, 2015 5:43 am by TCAT Shelbyville IT Department So you can’t cover your home or business with an adequate wireless signal. I managed to get my DLINK DIR-615 with DD-WRT to connect to a standard DLINK DIR-615 and the DD-WRT to act as a wireless repeater for internet. The challenge I face is that you have to connect to it as a seperate log-in which then seems to make it not connected to the main router/network from a file sharing persepctive. The best option I’m seeing for that is “Universal Wireless Repeater” (but it looks like “Repeater Bridge” would also work if I’m willing to fiddle with it from site-to-site). My Problem: Nothing is able to join the SSID on the repeater’s virtual interface. Posted: Sun Oct 03, 2010 8:03 Post subject: Wireless Repeater - Channel: I successfully flashed dd-wrt into WTR54GS with WPA2 security. Question: In repeater mode does the channel number of the repeater have to be the same as base repeater? I do not see choice of channel in setup screen.

This also means you may run into problems with the limitations of wireless repeater mode, and there are some. At the time of this writing, wireless repeater mode does not yet function in bridged mode.
Jan 26, 2012 · For years I have been using a Netgear WNDR4500 running DD-wrt v24-sp2 as a wireless bridge to the second side of my house that feeds a switch with about 10 devices (TVs, desktop computers, etc). This all works pretty good (I occasionally need to unplug/plug the switch because of connection issues but its not a huge deal.) Jan 24, 2012 · The prior DD-WRT guide we shared with you focuses on using the second DD-WRT powered router as a Wi-Fi repeater. Currently, Tomato (and it’s derivative TomatoUSB) do not include the specific software components necessary for a true Wi-Fi repeating mode. The network extension tool included in Tomato is known as Wireless Distribution System (WDS). In configuring the DD-WRT router to act as a wireless repeater, you must configure two connections. The first, is the wireless link between the remote AP and the DD-WRT router. This is configured on the DD-WRT routers physical interface so that the DD-WRT router can join the remote AP's network as a client, just like a laptop would. To get wifi coverage in the yard and the whole house, I decided to re-purpose my Linksys E1500. Here’s what I did: First I installed the DD-WRT firmware and with it turned my router into a Wireless Repeater Bridge. A wireless repeater bridge essentially does two things: 1. It connects to your existing wifi network (xxx) as a client. 2. With DD-WRT you can turn you simple router into a very powerful device. While there are many uses to DD-WRT we will explain how to use it as a Wireless Repeater (Extender) to an existing WLAN without the use of WDS. This feature is done by “slicing” the WLAN adapter into Virtual Adapters: The first as a client with bridge to the main WLAN
